The main activity of the company consists of breeding new potato varieties and developing R&D projects about this crop.

APPACALE's partners are the Regional Govern ‘Junta de Castilla y León' (51%) and the Cooperatives of seed potato production from this region.

Potato breeding is a strategic objective for seed potato producers from Castilla y León, which produce more than 70% of the Spanish seed potato. The creation of varieties with new resistances will allow to grow them under integrated and/or organic production.

New technologies are being applied to optimize our breeding program (somatic hybridization and molecular markers assisted selection) and variety identification by DNA molecular markers is being offered as a service. Tests of potato cooking quality, virus analysis and other technical services are also offered.
